Coach & Marilyn Smith Wrestling Scholarship
&
Scott R. Smith Memorial Wrestling Scholarship
The Coach and Marilyn Smith (established 2008) and Scott R. Smith (established 1983) scholarships honor the legacy of Coach Smith, his wife Marilyn, and their son Scott, for their love and support for the sport of wrestling. Award winners will receive a minimum of $1,000 for each scholarship, but can be up to $5,000, given as one-year scholarships. Based on the number of qualified applicants the committee will determine, by majority vote, the award winner(s) and actual amount(s).
Purpose: This scholarship will be awarded to assist a student(s) in furthering his/her education. A check will be sent the second semester to the college the recipient is attending (must be full time), to go toward tuition. The first semester must be documented with wrestling participation or demonstrating outstanding support of wrestling. It is the recipient’s responsibility to provide the college registrar’s information to the committee (via the Smith Family scholarship website) and the Wray Area schools foundation contact (currently Elizabeth Riggleman, WJSHS counselor).
These scholarships will be awarded on the basis of character, academic potential, future plans, and continuation of wrestling or support of wrestling in and after college. Any graduating senior of a Colorado high school who is going on to college to wrestle will have priority; however applicants may also apply who will continue to support wrestling post high school.
